biography

André was born 1976 in the town of Schwäbisch Hall, Germany. But he grew up close to the City of Nuremberg, where he started playing the Organ/Piano by the age of 6.
At the age of 8 years, he changed playing the Trumpet. Five years later he joined a local Brass band. Further on, at the age of 14 he started playing the drums, because he was fascinated by that kind of Instrument.
When he was 16, he had his first own band, called Unexplained. In the meantime he had several Drum-Lessons here and there.
Shortly, after Graduating from School, he met Joachim Leyh, and stay three years with him, and took lessons. During this period, he started getting interested in Jazz, and played Percussion and Drums in a Big Band.
In 1999, after finishing up his Social-Service, he studied at the Los Angeles Music Academy, in Pasadena / Los Angeles. He had teacher such as: Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humpfrey, Mike Shapiro, John Robinson; Dave Beyer and many more.
He returned to Germany in October 2000, where he started teaching drums in several music schools.
In the past years he played and recorded f. eg. with Subwave (alternative Rock); Corcovado (Brazilian Jazz); NA64 (Alternative);his own Jazz-Trio Jazz-Trio (Andre Oettel Trio), 4T-Up (Funk Band), and many more;
